FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEAgent/Blogger Danielle Smith Joins West Coast-Based Red Fox Literary

SHELL BEACH, CA - March 12, 2014: Award-winning children’s book blogger Danielle Smith will join co-founders Karen Grencik and Abigail Samoun at boutique agency Red Fox Literary this month.
Smith is the well-known blogger behind the online review site There’s a Book, winner of the BBAW’s Best Kidlit Book Review Blog and host to over two-hundred thousand page views per month. Her children’s book reviews have also appeared in top online and print publications such as Parenting Magazine and Women’s World.

“Danielle’s influence among parents, teachers, librarians, booksellers, and other bloggers helped put us on the map,” says Kellie Celia, Marketing Communications Manager at HarperCollins imprint Walden Pond Press. “This speaks to the amount of respect the education, parent, and children’s book communities give Danielle. She has an eye for great authors and the relationships to take these authors to the next stage in their careers.”

Smith’s expertise in children’s literature led her to serve as a judge for The Cybils Awards from 2010 to 2012, and as a board member of The Central Coast Writer’s Conference and the BEA Book Bloggers Advisory.

“Danielle’s five years as a children’s book reviewer have given her an extensive knowledge of the current children’s book marketplace,” says Samoun. “Karen and I are excited to see her build her list of clients. We know that she’ll be bringing some amazing talent to the agency.”

Grencik adds, “Her strong background in technology and multi media also makes Danielle a terrific asset as we develop our online presence.”

Smith comes to Red Fox after a successful stint at Foreword Literary where she sold Julie Falatko’s highly anticipated picture book Snappsy the Alligator (Did Not Ask to Be in This Book) in a pre-empt to Viking Children’s Books.

Smith says she’s thrilled to join Red Fox. The small agency, which Grencik and Samoun launched in June 2011, recently reached #4 in children’s book sales on Publishers Marketplace

“Both Karen and Abi have been tremendously successful in the children's literature arena,” says Smith. “Having their support and guidance means a lot. They’ve encouraged my agenting career from the very beginning.”

This new stage in Smith’s career will allow her to further hone her skills for spotting talent and giving it wings.

Says Celia, “If Danielle recommends a book or a publisher, people pay attention. I can say with complete certainty that if she had not taken us under her wing, our imprint would not be as successful as it is today.”

In the coming months, Smith will be looking to further expand on the sterling reputation she's built within the children’s trade publishing world. Her client list will include both authors and illustrators working in genres from board books to picture books to young adult novels.

Says Smith, "Red Fox Literary's strength lies in discovering the best new talent in the children's literature and illustration. I can't wait to get started with them!"
